Louis XV Limestone Mantel with Serpentine Shelf

A serpentine shelf follows the curve of the frieze, which is carved at its centre with a single acanthus scroll, and the jambs taper away in a soft cabriole line to the floor. The limestone is a clean chalk white with almost no veining. Photographed in a French country room with a brick firebox, a silvered mirror above, and cedar garland along the shelf.
