Carved Limestone Mantel with Running Acanthus Scroll Frieze

The frieze is carved with one continuous acanthus scroll, gathered at each corner into a rosette block, and the jambs are full pilasters worked in overlapping acanthus leaves above bead mouldings. The stone is a pale ivory limestone that has kept its crisp arrises, so every undercut still throws a shadow.
